The Clio Renaultsport 197 redefined what constitutes a hot hatch with staggering performance from its powerful 197hp engine, advanced chassis and F1-developed air diffuser keeping it firmly planted to the road.
The engine was extensively revised from the previous Clio Renaultsport 182, with new inlet tracts, valve seat aerodynamics, camshaft, crank shaft and pistons.
Continuously variable valve timing resulted in 197hp at 7250rpm with 215nm of Torque at 5550rpm.
The car also had a very short throw gearbox, making changing gears a joy.
All of these factors made the Clio Renaultsport 197 one of the best hot hatches of its time.
